Polartec Power Shield, the new bio-based technology

Polartec has announced the launch of its newest bio-based technology, Polartec Power Shield.

A testament to Polartec’s continued strong focus on the use of renewable substances without neglecting efficiency and performance, Polartec Power Shield is made from plant-based and non-PFAS materials, achieving an excellent combination of waterproofness, breathability, durability and elasticity.

Power Shield, in fact, is Polartec’s first technology to exceed 20,000 mm of water columns in the hydrostatic pressure test (waterproofness) and 20,000 g/m2/24h of water vapor transmission (breathability).

Following the launch, Polartec president Steve Layton said, “With Power Shield, we strengthen Polartec’s capabilities to offer breathable and waterproof solutions-from the highest level of durability for expeditions, to construction suitable for the most fashionable garments-and at the same time we are pioneering the use of bio-based materials to achieve these extraordinary capabilities. Our commitment is to reduce dependence on petroleum while producing a membrane that offers superior waterproof performance to what we have brought to market so far.”

Polartec Power Shield is already available to Brands around the world in six versions and will debut products offering a wide range of functionality, from city to mountain use, marketed starting in fall 2023.
