A new route on Cerro Torres: Matteo Della Bordella’s dream

Mountaineer, Spider of Lecco, Matteo Della Bordella returns to bookstores with “The Summit of Life” (Rizzoli, 2024). A book that grew out of one of his greatest feats: the opening of a new route on Cerro Torre. A perfect mountain for him, where dream and destiny intersect.

A volume that touches the most intimate chords of the protagonist in his story of difficult walls and inviolate mountains, but also of friends gone before their time. Those with whom he envisioned and dreamed up “Brothers in Arms,” the line that now runs on the east and north faces of the Torre, are Matteo Pasquetto and Matteo Bernasconi with whom Della Bordella formed the “three Matthews” roped party. They left in a huff, but the dream remained, the one completed with Spiders David Bacci and Matteo De Zaiacomo.

The summit of life traces the last years of Matteo Della Bordella, not only through his mountaineering story, but with a broader look that sees his family appearing in the narrative, his son Lio, who turned his life upside down, and Ida, his second son-in-law born in late 2023, to whom he dedicates the last pages of the book. Thanks to the photographic inserts, the reader is transported all the way to the summit of Cerro Torre. For Matteo Della Bordella, this is his second publishing work, following La via meno battuta (Rizzoli, 2019).
