We Create Skis With People Who Inspire: the Elan project

Once again this year, the Slovenian company presented the project in collaboration with unique people to create skis that can tell a story while maintaining the brand’s iconic footprint. For the 2021-2022 season, Elan chose Lauren Salko.

With We Create Skis With People Who Inspire, an annual project that always proves to be one of a kind, Elan wants to tell stories of incredible people who are able to accomplish noteworthy feats and who can fully represent the spirit of the brand. For this year, Lauren Salko, a skier from Park City (UT) and an Elan ambassador, was chosen. Lauren is not only a legend in her sport and aspiring to the 2022 Winter Olympics in China; she is an athlete who fights Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) every day, raising awareness and showing everyone how this type of disease is an obstacle, but an obstacle that can be overcome. Lauren talks about how diabetes has no power to stop people from doing what they love: being in nature, enjoying the snow, performing at their best as professionals or beginners.
Elan wants to pitch in to support Lauren and anyone in her situation, so they decided to donate all the profit from her custom pair of skis to the Ohio nonprofit organization Children with Diabetes to help children living with T1D.

But let’s get to the product.

Lauren Salko‘s ski is based on the Ripstick 94W and is sold in limited edition, able to accompany anyone in their best Freeride and All-Mountain adventures. The graphics perfectly tell her story and the coexistence with T1D: in fact the chemical composition of insulin stands out immediately, able to connect every facet of her life. You can see Silas, the athlete’s best friend and support dog for diabetics, you can recognize the lines of his roots in the city, but also his passion for the mountains.
