Ferrino and Politecnico di Torino at work on SS23 collection

Ferrino’s constant focus on improving quality standards needs no introduction, and the evolution of the product catalog follows methodical and continuous research. The focus of the research is to ensure superior ergonomic features and unprecedented thermal comfort.

What makes the difference, however, according to the company’s reports, are the technical features of the backrest, which are essential to better manage load and temperature, preventing sweating and friction.

Numerous tests were carried out to achieve these excellent results, managing temperature range and moisture content. The evaluations carried out by the team took place at the Politecnico di Torino branch office in Città Studi Biella.

“The backpack is an essential piece of equipment for outdoor activity, but it has a great impact on thermal exchange between body and environment. With our tests, we have shown that air exchange in the microclimate between the backstroke and the back is the parameter that most influences thermal stress. Comparing more than a dozen different kinds of backs allowed us to identify better performing designs and materials, working in close collaboration with Ferrino’s R&D division” said Professor Ada Ferri, from the Department of Applied Science and Technology at the Politecnico di Torino.

Thanks to these studies, a solution was reached: by puncturing the spongy material on several points, moisture finds its way out laterally, reducing sweating.

But Ferrino’s research is obviously not limited to backpacks. There could be no shortage of new solutions in the offering of tents in the 3-season category for summer use to respond with a more complete range to the growing fast trek trend. The two new models Thar 2 and Rift 2 are self-supporting, with a minimum weight less than or equal to 2 kg, ideal for activities that require lightness and speed of assembly.
