Test: Salomon Mtn Explore
Designed for touring enthusiasts, it guarantees an excellent balance between performance and comfort.
While retaining many of the features of the top-of-the-range S/Lab MTN model, this boot was created with the aim of reaching a wider audience in terms of technical level and versatility of use. The Custom Shell HD process, which characterizes the construction of the shell, allows you to customize the lower part as desired. The use of Grilamid has made it possible to obtain a thinner structure, optimizing the perception of sensations and making the transmission of energy much more direct. The in-depth study of the materials has the containment of weights as a further positive effect. The 1460 grams per unit are an excellent result, when compared to shells of the same segment. This offers considerable comfort and ease of use even when long uphill gradients have to be covered. Thanks to the intuitive Surelock mechanism, for the ski/walk transition, and the cuff motion range of 63°, walking with and without skis is agile and safe in all conditions. The closure with double light hook and strap on the cuff keeps the foot firmly, for an efficient transmission of power to the ski. This boot makes versatility its strong point: suitable for classic touring, it guarantees excellent performance in free touring trips more oriented to the descent in fresh snow and does not hold back if the day includes lines in deep snow, typical of pure freeriding. A true “unique” boot.
We Like: Downhill performance, uphill agility, comfort, all in one shell.
