crosses the finish line in an unreal time of 2h11’53”, becoming the greatest marathoner ever. The performance given to us by the 26-year-old Ethiopian is simply monstrous. Already a winner in the German capital last year, Assefa finished the race 2 minutes and 11 seconds ahead of the previous record, the 2h14’04” run by Kenyan Brigid Kosgei in Chicago in 2019.

A crushing victory that follows another, that of Peres Jepchirchir on the streets of Newcastle, the world’s largest half-marathon race. Then he made his debut with road runners by bringing home an outstanding performance.

Speaking after her historic performance, Tigist Assefa said, “Berlin is very special for me, and after my victory last year, I had big plans for today. I have been training very hard over the past few months to achieve the fastest time I have ever run. I am very thankful for the support of the crowd during the race, but also for my partner adidas who equipped me by giving me that extra push to reach a world goal. Record time. I couldn’t be happier.”

Defending her title from last year’s Berlin Marathon, Tigist proved that she is the best female marathoner in the world, once again routing the competition. Last year she set a course record of 2:15:37, which at the time was the third fastest women’s marathon time in history. This year he broke the world record and improved his own course record by an impressive 2 minutes and 11 seconds.

Also making the podium was another adidas athlete, Sheila Chepkirui, who finished in second place with a time of 2:17.49, having won over the half-marathon distance in Berlin last year with a world-class course record of 65:02.

Alberto Uncini Manganelli, General Manager Running & Credibility Sports at adidas, said, “Congratulations to Tigist on this historic achievement. Seeing her break the world record ahead of us in the new adidas Adios Pro Evo 1 gave me goosebumps. We at adidas are born out of a passion for winning, and this shoe represents our never-ending quest to create the best for the athlete, to keep pushing the limits of what is possible to help them run faster than ever. Seeing Tigist take its place in the history books today is proof that hard work, self-reliance and perseverance pay off.”
